스테판 크라센은 Southern California 대학의 교육의 명예교수이다. 그는 외국어교육의 Natural Approach 교육방법의 공동 발명자로 제2언어습득의 포괄적 이론을 처음 개발하고 보호받는 교과교육의 개념의 소개로 가장 잘 알려져 있다. 그는 두 언어 병용 교육 분야에서의 이론과 적용을 기부해왔고 독해 분야에서도 중요한 일들을 해왔다. 그는 UCLA 언어학 박사 학를 소지하고 있고 1977년 베니스 비치 인클라인 벤치 프레스 챔피언과 태권도 검은띠를 가지고 있다. 그는 The Power of Reading (Heinemann, 2004, second edition) 과 Explorations in Language and Use (Heinemann, 2003)의 저자이며, 그의 최근 논문들은 http://www.sdkrashen.com 에서 찾아볼 수 있다.
